The Los Angeles Lakers put a perfect road record on the line with a visit to Atlanta on tap to face Trae Young and the Hawks.
The Lakers were missing guard Austin Reaves, who has been off to a tremendous start this season, and forward LeBron James, who has been out the entirety of the season with a sciatica injury. Otherwise, they were well-positioned to take advantage of a banged-up Bucks team, with Luka Doncic set to lead the way.
Reaves averaged 31.1 points, 9.3 assists and 5.1 rebounds in the Lakers’ first seven games before suffering the injury during the first quarter of the Nov. 2 home win over the Miami Heat.
Because NBA rules restrict the Lakers from extending Reaves up to 140% of the average player (four-years, $87.4 million with a starting salary of $19.5 million next season), it is highly unlikely he will sign a new contract prior to June 30. The more likely scenario is for Reaves to decline his player option and become an unrestricted free agent.
