February 23, 2025 (Lemon Grove) – A man is dead after an assault with a deadly weapon at Kunkel Park in Lemon Grove this afternoon. Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the park within four minutes of a call reporting the assault at 12:40 p.m. They found a Hispanic man in his 50s lying on the ground with trauma to his upper torso.

A man was found fatally wounded Sunday afternoon after sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported shooting in a Lemon Grove park, sheriff’s officials said. Deputies got the call at 12:40 p.m. Sunday and found the victim on the ground at Kunkel Park off Lemon Grove Way near Grove Street,

After initially reporting the incident as a shooting, then later retracting that to an assault with a deadly weapon, authorities said an autopsy revealed 51-year-old Anthony Trujillo died from a gunshot wound to the neck at Kunkel Park in Lemon Grove.
