It was a tense week for residents near the Jennings Creek wildfire. They lived in fear the fire would take their homes.

“We're not talking a rain shower or something,” Donnelly said. “We're talking inches of rain - a nice, slow, steady rain that can penetrate the ground. Because right now, the ground is so hard that you get a heavy shower, something's just going to run off the ground.”

Called the Jennings Creek Wildfire, the fire originated east of Greenwood Lake in New York state and spread into a large swath of Sterling Forest north of Passaic County on the back of winds from the north.
