All three deputies were charged with second-degree murder in the June 2024 death of inmate Rolin Hill. Two of the deputies also were indicted on assault charges.

Rolin Hill died less than a week after suffering a medical emergency at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.

The charges come after a special grand jury heard evidence regarding Mr. Hill’s arrest and booking into the Virginia Beach Correctional Center, according to the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office.

Three former Virginia Beach sheriff's deputies charged with second-degree murder in the death of Rolin Hill have turned themselves in to authorities, according to the Virginia Beach Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney.

Local organizations and the family of Rolin Hill held a prayer vigil earlier this afternoon to remember the 34-year-old who died in custody last year. On Saturday, the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office also confirmed the three former sheriff’s deputies indicted in Hill’s death have turned themselves in.
