Fear and confusion are spreading within Washington, DC’s homeless population at the start of President Donald Trump’s crackdown on encampments.

Trump, who announced a “criminal emergency” in Washington and took federal control of the US Capital's police department, had earlier said that the homeless people would be moved far from the city as part of his crackdown on crime. However, he did not reveal any details on the measures which would be taken to do so.

Some of the District of Columbia’s homeless residents were packing their belongings Thursday before expected sweeps to clear out remaining encampments around the nation's capital, part of President Donald Trump's federal takeover of policing in the city.
