President Donald Trump has taken over Washington D.C.’s police force and deployed the National Guard in the capital.The president took over the city’s police department for 30 days, and says he wants Congress to grant him “long-term” control of the force.

Democratic Washington, D. C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has left the district for Martha’s Vineyard as President Donald Trump deploys the National Guard to restore law and order in the nation’s capital, Scripps News reported.

This time around, Bowser took a different tact from the start. She flew to Florida to meet with Trump at Mar-a-Lago after he won the election and has worked to avoid conflict and downplay points of contention, including tearing up the “Black Lives Matter” letters after he returned to Washington in response to pressure from Republicans in Congress.

Donald Trump has said calls from Democrats for Washington DC to become a state are “ridiculous” and “unacceptable”.

During President Trump’s announcement of the Kennedy Center Honorees, Trump criticized D.C.'s push for statehood, which has been raised as an issue again with his takeover of the city police department,
