The recent Android 16 Beta 3 (and Beta 3.1) release updates a feature limited to the Pixel 9 and allows all devices from the Pixel 6 and newer to use fingerprint unlock while the screen is off.

Pixel phones may soon get a “double tap to turn off screen” gesture in the Android 16 QPR1 update. A new toggle for this gesture is expected to appear in the Settings app under System > Gestures.
