Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Wednesday claimed responsibility for a drone strike targeting the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, marking a sharp escalation in tensions between Tehran and Washington.
The two helicopter pilots were uninjured. After the retaliatory strikes were announced, President Trump said, "I believe the response should be very strong, very powerful."
“U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces began launching self-defense strikes against Iran at 5 p.m. ET today at the Commander in Chief’s direction, in response to yesterday’s downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter. The mission is a proportional response to unjustified Iranian aggression,” CENTCOM wrote in a post on X.
