All eastbound service from Penn remained suspended while westbound trains were being diverted following a fire in an East River tunnel.
A fire on the tracks in the East River Tunnel at Penn Station has continued to cause major disruptions for commuters, and could impact the Friday morning rush.
Long Island Rail Road service to Penn Station remains "extremely limited" Friday morning in an ongoing transit meltdown caused by an East River tunnel fire Thursday, MTA officials said. There is also no eastbound service from the station, and officials recommended riders use Grand Central Terminal or Atlantic Terminal as an alternative.
There will be no Long Island Rail Road service in and out of Penn Station Thursday night after feeder cable fire there earlier in the day.
According to CBS News New York, the FDNY said a feeder cable caught fire at Penn Station around noon, drawing more than 80 fire and EMS personnel to the underground hub. Officials told reporters there were no injuries reported as crews worked to ventilate and secure the affected areas.
