French President Macron, one of the first world leaders to publicly congratulate President-elect Trump, took a pro-Europe message to the European Union's meeting in Budapest on Thursday.

Following his Tuesday night victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, well-wishes for Donald Trump have come flooding in from leaders around the world. However, it was French President Emmanuel Macron’s well-wishes for Trump that left many wondering if they were indeed an insult.

Earlier this week, Trump, a Republican, won the 2024 presidential election, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party 's candidate. The Associated Press and TV news networks called the election for Trump early Wednesday after a win in Wisconsin put him over the 270 Electoral College vote threshold needed for victory.
