Rain helped firefighters continue to increase containment on a wildfire that burned thousands of acres and forced evacuation orders and warnings north of the U.S.-Mexico border in San Diego County. The blaze,

Border 2 Fire initially started 1:58 p.m. Jan. 23 in San Diego County. After being active for 47 hours, it has burned 6,624.8 acres, an increase of 125 acres since the last update. A fire crew of 1,177 effectively contained 10% of the fire by Saturday afternoon. The blaze's cause remains under investigation.

Firefighters worked overnight to corral the Border 2 Fire, which spread over some 10 square miles of remote terrain a few miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border and was still only 10% contained Sunday morning.

A new wildfire was reported today at 1:58 p.m. in San Diego County. Border Fire has been burning on federal land managed by the Bureau of Land Management. Currently, there is no data on the containment status of the fire and the cause has yet to be determined.

The Border 2 Fire, a brush fire that broke out on Otay Mountain near the U.S.-Mexico border in San Diego County on Thursday afternoon, January 23, had burned more than 6,625 acres and was 10% contained as of Sunday.
