More widespread use of mammograms, along with the implementation of targeted hormone therapies more than 40 years ago, has significantly contributed to the decline in death rates. But even though Black women are slightly more likely than white women to receive regular mammograms, targeted hormone therapies are often less effective for Black women.

The WHO warns that the number of breast cancer cases is expected to rise significantly, with low and middle-income countries being disproportionately affected.

The IARC Global Cancer Observatory, which incorporates information from the World Health Organization (WHO) Mortality Database and Cancer Incidence in Five Continents, serves as the basis for these estimations.
