Powerful Hurricane Erick has made landfall in Mexico’s western state of Oaxaca. That is according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

Forecasters say Erick is expected to cause potentially destructive winds and life-threatening flash floods over a wide area.

Hurricane Erick strengthened in the Pacific Ocean and could become a major hurricane before striking Mexico, the National Hurricane Center warned.
