The size for a new hotel ranges from 600 to 1,000 rooms. Officials will travel to Columbus and Cleveland this week to evaluate convention centers and nearby hotels in those cities.

Once the largest hotel in St. Louis, the 28-story Millennium Hotel is going out with a whimper. All but 164 of its rooms already are out of service and the workforce is down to about 80 people.

Downtown Cincinnati has 12 hotels, with another four hotels under construction. But none of the other hotels, besides the Millennium, can handle conventions that need to book more than 800 rooms.

Millennium operates the hotel under a lease that is expiring, but the hotel property is owned by Josephine G. Malecki, Francis Fuest, Kevin Zola, Eugene P. Zola, Ronald Juzdowski and Christine Davies.
