Shesterkin has helped the Rangers reach the Eastern Conference Final twice, in 2022, when they lost in six games to the Tampa Bay Lightning, and last season, when they lost in six games to the Florida Panthers after winning the Presidents' Trophy with 55 wins and 114 points.

They are both still yet to sign contract extensions, but Chris Drury has Igor Shesterkin and Alexis Lafrenière in his long term plans for the Rangers.

Igor Shesterkin addressed the media for the first time on Friday and one of the first questions he was asked was about his contract situation. It’s no secret that Shesterkin’s contract is up at the end of the season as he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent.

Jacob Trouba said “there’s no animosity” toward the Rangers after an offseason when his name was mentioned in trade rumors.

Asked if his feelings were hurt seeing his name in trade rumors, the Rangers captain said, “Not even a little bit.”
