Carolina Hurricanes captain Jordan Staal will play in his 1,300th career game tonight against the Chicago Blackhawks. Not only will Staal become the 74th player in league history to reach that milestone, but he'll also become the first player from the 2006 draft class to reach it as well.
RALEIGH, N.C. - The National Hockey League today announced that Carolina Hurricanes forward Jordan Staal has been named the NHL’s “Second Star” for the week ending Jan. 12. This marks the first time that Staal has been named one of the NHL’s three weekly stars.
Staal skated 431 games over six seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins, who drafted second overall in 2006, winning the Stanley Cup in 2009. He scored 120 goals and 248 points, earning All-Rookie Team honors and finishing third in Calder Trophy voting in 2006-07.
