Southern California is bracing for a surge of summerlike heat this week with inland temperatures expected to climb into the 90s and potentially hit the triple digits in the San Fernando Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

The heat pushed well into the 90s in many areas Wednesdays but will drop into the 80s in many areas on Thursday and get even cooler on Friday.

Much of Southern California has been placed under a heat advisory on Tuesday as the first day of a four-day heat wave arrives. A ridge of high pressure will result in an extended period of hot weather this week,
