Aug 11 (Reuters) - Chinese battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology (300750.SZ) said on Monday it had suspended production at a major lithium mine, sparking a surge in lithium futures and miners' share prices, amid a broader crackdown on overcapacity.

Battery giant CATL has suspended operations at its Jianxiawo lithium mine in Jiangxi province for at least three months.

CATL, the world's largest manufacturer of electric-vehicle batteries, halted operations at a major mine in China, spurring speculation that Beijing might move to suspend other projects as it tackles overcapacity across the economy.
