Chennai rains today: The India Meteorological Department has issued alert of heavy rainfall in several Tamil Nadu districts for today, Friday, November 15. The state has been receiving heavy rainfall over the past few days due to an active weather system over the Bay of Bengal.

The IMD bulletin also calls for significant rainfall across twenty-three Tamil Nadu districts on Thursday, including Cuddalore, Chengalpattu, and Kancheepuram, along with Puducherry and Karaikal.

Initially, Chennai officials indicated that schools would operate as usual; however, the decision was reversed within 30 minutes due to the intensity of the rainfall and the forecast for showers.

The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and south Interior Karnataka due to a low-pressure system over the southwest Bay of Bengal, expected to last until November 16.

The state’s Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin confirmed, “We have increased the number of motor pumps and deployed additional volunteers based on rain patterns observed in October. The Tamil Nadu government is fully prepared for the rains.

Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu are bracing for more heavy rainfall on Thursday and Friday due to a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal. Despite the downpours, schools in Chennai will remain open.
