Democrat Doron Clark has won the special election in Minnesota Senate District 60, confirming majority control for the DFL in the Senate. A special election was held in the district – which covers northeast and parts of southeast Minneapolis –following the death of Sen. Kari Dziedzic of cancer last month.

The death of Minneapolis DFL state Sen. Kari Dziedzic left a 33-33 tie in the Minnesota Senate but a special election in her district on Tuesday night changed that. DFLer Doron Clark won in the deep-blue Minneapolis district with 90 percent of the vote.

A special election is being held Tuesday for Minnesota Senate District 60, which was earlier vacated due to the death of former DFL Senate Majority Leader Kari Dziedzic. The special election pits Democratic Party candidate Doron Clark against Republican Party candidate Abigail Wolters.
