Trooper Carns was taken to St. Joe's Hospital in Joliet, where he died of his injuries. ​ John Fleet, 69, of Wilmington was not injured.

An Illinois State Police trooper was killed on Interstate 55 after being hit by a car, the agency said early Tuesday. The collision took place in Will County on southbound Interstate 55 near Channahon.

The driver was charged under what is known as Scott’s Law or the Move Over Law, which requires all drivers in Illinois to move over when approaching an emergency vehicle or any vehicle with its emergency or hazard lights activated,
