Republicans, numerous service industry workers and restaurant owners have warned that phasing out the subminimum wage for tipped workers will put jobs and businesses at risk.

Many Michigan workers would make at least $15 an hour within the next two years under a plan passed Thursday in the state Senate.

The Regulatory Affairs Committee voted 6-4 to send the proposal to the full Senate, which could take up the measure later Thursday.
