Liquidator Hilco Consumer-Retail announced the shuttering of 328 locations nationwide and the start of store-closing sales.

The locations are currently hosting store-closing sales managed by Hilco, a company which offers liquidation services.

American Freight, a furniture and appliance retailer, begins closing its 370 stores amid bankruptcy of its parent company, Franchise Group Inc. Other Franchise Group brands will stay open.

Suburban Columbus-based Franchise Group has opted to shut down its American Freight discount furniture retail chain as a way to alleviate its debt challenges in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy process.

The owner of the retail chain, which operates stores throughout Indianapolis and Indiana, has agreed to close all stores nationwide as part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy agreement.

American Freight plans to close storefront locations, including in Houston, as its parent company, Franchise Group Inc., has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The furniture and mattress store has initiated the final closing sales at 328 locations with discounts being offered including 30% off the lowest ticketed prices,

American Freight has more than 300 locations, including stores in Cranston, Fairhaven and Fall River. The discount retail chain sells furniture sets, appliances and mattresses. Its parent company declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
