Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Donald Trump for a “potentially historic” one-on-one meeting in St Peter’s Basilica on the sidelines of Pope Francis’s funeral.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday said his brief meeting with President Trump in Vatican City was “good” and “symbolic,” as the U.S. continues to facilitate peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv.

President Trump’s inability to halt the war in Ukraine after promising to do so quickly has left him increasingly frustrated. The question now is whether he is willing to press Moscow for concessions to get a deal.

Despite negotiations to end the war in Ukraine hitting a wall and a deadly Russian strike on the country's capital city early Thursday, President Donald Trump remained insistent that talks had made "a lot of progress.
