The National Hurricane Center on Thursday increased odds that a developing system could head into the Gulf of Mexico and become a tropical depression or storm — while it also kept tabs on two systems in the Atlantic.

A large, slowly-spinning system across the northern Caribbean and southern Gulf of Mexico could develop into something serious, forecasters said.

There is some activity worth watching now as it gets close to the peak of hurricane season. The National Hurricane Center has an area of low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico labeled as “Potential Tropical Cyclone Six” which will likely become Tropical Storm Francine by Monday evening or Tuesday morning.
