Cisco is laying off more than 800 workers in the Bay Area, according to WARN documents. The layoffs will slam San Jose, Milpitas and San Francisco offices.

Cisco’s current round of layoffs will impact about 6,000 jobs as the company looks to sharpen its focus on AI networking, security and collaboration.

These layoffs reflect a broader trend in the technology sector, where many firms are cutting jobs in response to economic pressures and reduced demand. In 2024 alone, over 136,000 employees across 422 tech companies have been affected by layoffs. Cisco, which employed roughly 85,000 people before these cuts, is among them, the report said.

IBM, meanwhile, is cutting 58 San Francisco workers. The New York company has not said how many total employees it plans to let go, but in addition to slashing employees in The City, it’s also laying off 54 people in San Jose, according to letters its representatives sent to the state Employment Development Department.
