Two Alameda police officers no longer face charges in connection with the death of 26-year-old Mario Gonzalez after a judge's ruling Monday. In the ruling, an Alameda County Superior Court judge agreed with a defense motion to drop involuntary manslaughter charges against Alameda police officers James Fisher and Cameron Leahy because it was determined the charges were not properly filed within the three-year statute of limitations.

In a major blow to Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price, a judge on Monday dismissed charges against two of three Alameda police officers charged with the involuntary manslaughter of Mario Gonzalez.

Prosecutors who charged three Alameda officers with the involuntary death of Mario Gonzalez three years ago argued in court papers that the case should not be dismissed, even though the police attorneys say they missed a key deadline and didn't file all the proper paperwork.

The ruling to dismiss charges against officers Cameron Leahy and James Fisher marks another twist in a case that drew comparisons to the 2020 murder of George Floyd.
