ST. PAUL – Governor Tim Walz has announced the 77th Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener will take place in Crosslake on May 9-10, 2025. Each year Explore Minnesota works with the Governor’s Office, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, and a Minnesota community to plan the event honoring the state’s rich tourism and fishing opportunities.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The 77 th Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener will be held in Crosslake on May 9 and 10.

Crosslake and the surrounding area, located about two hours north of the Twin Cities, boast the popular Whitefish Chain, an interconnected string of 14 lakes.

The 77th Minnesota Governor's Fishing Opener will head to Crosslake for the first time, the office of Governor Tim Walz announced on Thursday. The annual opener will take place on May 9–10, with plans to put Crosslake's "natural beauty, diversity of fish species, and hospitality" on display.
