A man whose family said has a history of schizophrenia is being blamed for the brutal stabbing deaths of three people, including two children in St. Helena Parish.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. deputies with St. Helena Parish Sheriff's Office were dispatched to an apparent triple homicide at 1599 Sawmill Road in Amite.

According to the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office, Virgil Thew, a man wanted in connection to a triple homicide, is in custody. The arrest ends an over week-long manhunt for Thew, who was wanted in connection with the deaths of an adult and two children in New Lisbon.

The St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a triple homicide in Amite. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were called to the 1500 block of Sawmill Road or Par Road 37, just off of Leonard Chapel Road in Amite about an apparent triple homicide around 4:30 p.

A man is behind bars as a suspect in the fatal stabbing of two children and a woman outside of Amite. St. Helena Sheriff Clay Chutz said the youngest victim was a one-year-old infant and the other child was 10 years old.
