They often spit in self defense when they feel they’re in danger, when they’re competing over food, or when they want to establish dominance over each other. Bill spit A LOT his first day at the farm because he was scared and in an unfamiliar place. Since then, these boys pretty much only spit on each other. Still, it is very easy for humans to be caught in the crossfire because alpacas can spit up to ten feet!
