🏀On April 3, 1989 Michigan, coached by Steve Fisher, won the NCAA national title with an 80–79 overtime victory over Seton Hall, coached by P. J. Carlesimo, at the Kingdome in Seattle. Glen Rice of Michigan set an NCAA tournament record by scoring 184 points in 6 games (30.7 ppg) and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. The win gave Michigan their first and, to date, their only NCAA championship. The game is remembered for what has been dubbed as “The Phantom Foul” by Seton Hall
