An RAF Chinook was involved in enhancing coastal habitats for birds this week, by delivering 55 tonnes of shingle to Pewitt Island in Portsmouth Harbour. The island, which is managed by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, is an important wildlife breeding and roosting spot for Gulls, Terns and other migratory sea birds. Due to its remoteness and the shallow water around it, the Chinook provided the only means of delivering the cargo to help mitigate the impact of local refurbishments
